Wine tasting; taking sips

wine tasting:
his usual gruffness
transforms
into a bouquet
of oak and berries

a winery outside Fredericksburg, Texas

taking sips
of prickly pear wine ...
subtle swirls
of sweet and biting
together in one glass

—both of these, Atlas Poetica, Issue 14, Spring 2013

  1. So nice! I just went to a South African food and wine festival, it was wonderful to taste new things. Just lovely!

  2. Charming contrasts here. Wine notes, "together in one glass". A lot to this piece.

  3. Thanks, Lisa and Wendy. One of my husband's favorite pastimes is drinking/tasting wines, so we do that from time to time (though I have to take it kind of easy myself).

  6. For wine lovers and experienced tasters, there is an entire vocabulary. My reaction is simple: I like it or I don't like it. Although, it is fun to be at a wine tasting.

    1. I agree, though I almost always tend to "like it." Yes, for some reason, wine tastings are fun. ;)
