Railroad arms

railroad arms
rise up as I approach ...
on the long drive
to the hospital
I hope for an "all clear"

—American Tanka, June 2013, Issue 22

Between the two of us, we've had three trips to the ER in the past year-and-a-half. One of those visits, almost exactly a year ago, resulted in a hospital stay—for "him." Long story, but he made it through fine.

  1. How true. I've been at that railway crossing a lot of times. Four kids - and now a Nana. Many, many trips to the ER. So far - so good.

  2. I know about those trip to the ER. We've had two this year, one for my husband and one for me. Not fun, but we are both o.k now.

  3. That's good that you're all okay now. :)
My last one was 2-1/2 months ago. The cost hurts about as much as the pain.

  4. Great poem, Janet. What I love best about it: describing the RR crossing as "railroad arms" . . .

  5. Thanks, maggie. It was somewhat of a dilemma in briefly, and poetically (as possible), describing the RR crossing gate; in the process I discovered I needed "arms" in there - glad you noticed. :)
