Wild pansies

wild pansies
infiltrate
her perfect garden—
lanky, jagged-leaved,
grins on their faces

A Hundred Gourds, 3:4, September 2014

Here in southeast Texas, pansies may survive the winter, but cottontail rabbits seem to love the taste of the blooms.

  1. I can just picture those grins! I love the idea of wildness infiltrating the too-perfect, the tamed & artificial.

    1. Thanks for the posts, Vandana and Jenny.

I bought some pansies a few weeks ago, but they never opened up their faces!

  2. Beautifully drawn. Pansies do have grins on their faces - and "lanky, jagged-leaved" imbues a rascally devil-may-care vibe to their invasion.
