A small boy; superimposed

a small boy
staring out at a world
he doesn't know—
snug in his flannel robe,
shrouded in illness

superimposed
on a snowy mountain,
my unclothed self …
no pockets to carry
the answers I want

—both of these from A Hundred Gourds, 5:2, March 2016

P.S. The little boy is a teenager now and doing very well indeed—thriving!

  1. These pieces are both such tender expressions of human vulnerability and the eternal quest: To Know.

  2. What a poignant pairing. No pockets and no answers.

    1. Thank you, Wendy and Jenny. (Maybe I should call you two Wen-Jen or Jendy. A nice ring to those?)

I thought these two kind of went together. A "coincidence" that they appeared in the same issue of AHG.

  3. That first one squeezed my heart a bit, so I was glad to read the boy is doing well. Both are so poignant!

Yes, he's a very interesting, amazing kid, talented at everything it seems.
